Character sets
ptelnet now supports multiple character sets. In theory, any 8-bit character set
that can be defined in the 0x80-0xFF extended ASCII range can be implemented
for ptelnet. In practice, because of the character cell size limitations, it is
not possible to represent too complex symbols, but the result is usually
satisfactory.
ptelnet has one built-in character set: ISO 8859-1 (Latin1),
for both the regular and the small fonts. Here you can download additional
character sets. After downloading, you must install them using
the regular install tool. Each character set is distributed in a very small PDB
file (less then 1k), and you can install as many as you want. Note that for some
character sets, it is possible that only the regular font is available.
If you want to see other character sets available for ptelnet, send your
suggestions to the email address at the bottom of this page. Please keep in
mind that only 8-bit ASCII extensions can be implemented, and that there can
be more than one character set for the same alphabet (like Cyrillic).
