Q: Can I have the source code of ptelnet ?
A: No. Source code will not be made available.

Q: How do I access the menus in ptelnet ?
A: Just tap the silk-screen Menu button.

Q: Will ptelnet ever support SSH ?
A: Not likely.

Q: Is it possible to add support for chinese BIG5 ?
A: No. Ptelnet supports only 8 bit character sets.

Q: Does/will ptelnet support hi-res or color ?
A: Not for now.

Q: Does ptelnet support connections using Infra-Red (IR) ?
A: Yes. This feature was added in version 0.6.

Q: Sometimes a get an error code. What those numbers mean ?
A: They are the standard error codes defined in PalmOS. You can see the list here.

Q: Is there a way to select/copy/paste text from the screen ?
A: No. In the current version screen taps are used to view the other half of the screen. It may be implemented in the future, though.

Q: Is there a way to scroll back text on the screen ?
A: No. The only way to see past text is to turn logging on, and then after you close the connection, you can see it on the MemoPad application.

Q: With which PalmOS versions ptelnet is compatible with ?
A: PalmOS versions 2.0.X, 3.X, 4.X and 5.X.

Q: There is no dial option, how can I dial a phone number ?
A: Make sure you are using the Serial mode (on Terminal Options) and then tap the On button. You are now connected to your modem. If you want to dial the number 1234, for example, you can type the ATD1234 command, followed by the return key. You can also put this command on a macro definition and use it every time you want do dial.

Q: Can't you show more than 40 colunms at the same time ?
A: The existing Palm Computing devices screens are 160 pixels tall and 160 pixels wide. With 40 columns we have 4 pixels for each column. Since 1 pixel is used to separate two adjacent columns, we are left with only 3 pixels to draw a character. This is the minimum necessary to draw anything visible (try to draw a w with only 2 pixels..)

Q: Do I need a special serial cable/adaptor ?
A: The HotSync craddle/cable is already null-modem, so you can use it to connect to a PC, hub, router, etc. To connect to an external modem you need the Modem cable, or the HotSync craddle/cable with a null modem adaptor.

Q: Can I send PF (function) keys ?
A: Yes. The VT100 Keypad lets you send the four PF keys defined in the VT100 standard (PF1 - PF20).

Q: Can I send a break signal in serial mode ?
A: Yes. This option is available in The VT100 Keypad.

Q: Do you plan to implement TN3270 ? It seems to be close to Telnet.
A: In fact, the TN3270 protocol runs on top of telnet, just like the VT100 escape sequences when using the network mode. However, TN3270 is far more complex and tottaly different from VT100. If it is going to be implemented, it will be a separate program.
